Art can make a difference!
I do many demonstrations at charity events, auctioning off the completed works to raise funds. In the last few years I have raised money for the Save Princes Parade action group (we won!), Shepway Sports Trust, Battle of Britain Memorial, Porchlight (homeless), Touch base (adults with learning disabilities) and many more.
Climate Action
I am connected with Folkestone Climate Carnival, a local climate action group. I believe climate change and how we engage with it to be the defining issue of our times. If you are a climate action or environmental group and would like my help please get in touch! In this video I paint the Leas as it is now and then I paint over it to suggest how it might look in the future.
Homeless Action
In 2023 seven homeless people died in Folkestone, a situation which is not uncommon up and down the country. I volunteer with the Rainbow Centre (homeless service providers) and also know many of the homeless people in Folkestone so I am currently producing a series of portraits. I am hoping to produce six paintings and then hold an exhibition at the Rainbow Centre. The simple idea behind the project is to increase visibility of these people. Local Big Issue vendor Raheem is pictured here showing my portrait of him that The Big Issue featured.
Art Therapy and Counselling
I am a trustee and fundraiser for The Church Street Project, providers of creative therapy and counselling to children and families in the area and have supported the charity since 2005.
I founded the annual Folkestone Sandcastle Competition in 2008 which raises funds and awareness about the charity. Follow my social media for information about next year’s event, and come along and build sandcastles!
